Designer Ana Areias draws inspiration from the particularities of the urban environment — its details, forms, patterns, and colours — to create her design and illustration work.

Ana Areias guided the workshop participants in discovering the symbols, graphics, and markings that define the identity of Braga’s first-generation shopping centres. Through an immersive process of documentation, archiving, and creation, these elements — though dated, deteriorated, or forgotten — were explored as carriers of hidden stories that continue to shape the collective imagination of Braga.

Ana Areias
(Porto, 1989) — also known as Ana Types Type — graduated in Communication Design from FBAUP in 2011 and has since worked as an independent graphic designer. Her practice spans art direction, editorial design, illustration, visual identities, textiles, packaging, and television graphics. She has collaborated on a range of national and international projects, with clients including Adobe, Bicep, Capicua, Ninja Tune, Porto Design Biennale, The Atlantic, Vice Media Group, among others. In 2016, she co-founded Madre, a laboratory dedicated to experimentation with materials, forms, and object production techniques.
